Elma Jannelle Armstrong Smith, 73, of Fayetteville passed away December 12, 2017.

Janelle was born on July 1, 1944 in Greeneville, Tenn. to James Lilburn Armstrong and Bessie Morelock Armstrong. As a child, she moved with her family to Clay County, N.C. There she met and later married Billy. After moving to Atlanta and later to Fayetteville, Ga., Jannelle taught school and retired from the Fayette County Board of Education. She loved traveling, reading, crossword puzzles and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be missed and thought of with love and gratitude.

Jannelle leaves behind her husband of 53 years, William Richard Smith; daughter, Wendy (Reid) Smith Montgomery; granddaughters, Anna Li Montgomery and Emma Xinyun Montgomery; brothers, Jim (Sallie) Armstrong of Tybee Island, Ga. and Steve (Rhonda) Armstrong of Powder Springs, Ga.; nephews, Chuck Armstrong and Chris Armstrong; niece, Sarah Armstrong; and many loving cousins, other family members, and priceless friends.

A memorial service was held Friday, December 15, 2017 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville with Rev. Steve Armstrong officiating. The family received friends beginning at 12 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
