John Dietz, Jr., 79, of Fayetteville, passed away July 25, 2017.
He was born on April 25, 1938 in Portland, Oregon to the late John and Lydia Dietz, Sr. Following his service in the US Navy, he was employed by the Federal Aviation Administration as an Air Traffic Controller. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Fayetteville.
John was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carolyn Anderson Dietz in August, 2009; and his daughter, Cheri Dietz Simonds in January, 2016. He is survived by his son, John Gregory (Michelle) Dietz; grandchildren, Lydia and Luke Simonds and Kelsey, Josh, and Ryan Dietz; and two sisters, Donna Adcook and Marilyn Saltzman.
A celebration of life service was held on Sunday, July 30, 2017, at 4 p.m. in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, with Dr. J.W. Wallis officiating. The family received friends from 2 – 4 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial took place at Georgia National Cemetery on Monday, July 31, 2017, at 9:30 a.m., with Navy funeral honors.
