Mr. James Busey Brown Sr., 90, passed away on June 28, 2017 at Southwest Christian Care in Fairburn, Ga. after an extended illness.

James was born in Fayetteville, Ga., on July 4, 1926 to parents Elizabeth McEachern Brown and Marcus L Brown, Jr. He was a graduate of Fayette County High School. He served in the United States Navy during World War II from 1943-47, seeing action in the Pacific Theatre, specifically the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. After service, James began working at Otis Elevator Company for a short time, followed by a lifelong career at the Federal Reserve Bank in Jacksonville, Fla. and Atlanta, Ga. James retired from the Federal Reserve Bank in 1986, after 35 years.

James met Shirley Y. Hines at the bank in 1951. He married Shirley on Sept 22, 1953, and celebrated their 62nd anniversary in 2015. James and Shirley were active members of the United Methodist Church, joining St. Andrews United Methodist Church in College Park, Ga. and later Fayetteville United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, Ga.

James was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his parents; three sisters, Dorothy Brewer, Rudene Hooton, and Willette Brown; and great-granddaughter, Josie Paige Bowles.

He is survived by his daughter, Joni (Mark) Bowles of Sharpsburg, Ga.; sons, James (Jimmy) Brown Jr. of Fayetteville, Mark (Jodie) Brown of Senoia, Ga., and Michael (Cindy) Brown of Fayetteville; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Henry Hines, Jr. (Betty Jo) of Callahan, Fla.

A funeral service will be held Friday, July 7, 2017, at 11 a.m., in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville. Burial will follow at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 6, 2017, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
