Leah Jean Sardone, 64, passed away peacefully on her own terms on Tuesday, April 11, 2017 after a long seven year battle with cancer. Her last days were filled with love and prayer surrounded by her family.
Leah and her twin brother Larry were born September 18, 1952 in Independence, Mo. to Robert and Alma Singleton. She grew up in the St. Louis area and attended the University of Evansville, earning her bachelor’s degree in nursing. In 1974, she moved to Atlanta to pursue her lifelong career in helping others. In 1980, she met her husband, Jim Sardone, whom she spent 35 wonderful, happy years with and had two beautiful children, Allison and Joseph.
Her long and successful career began as a nurse with Piedmont Hospital. It covered many areas including orthopedics, emergency medicine, acute medical care, plastic surgery, nursing management, and IT consulting. In addition, she also founded her own company, Convention Nursing Services, which allowed her to travel extensively around the world. She helped open urgent care centers, as well as Piedmont Fayette Hospital, where she served as the first Executive Director of Respiratory, Rehab, and Radiology and Chief Nursing Officer. Her final years of employment were spent helping hospitals around the U.S. implement Electronic Medical Records. When she wasn’t dedicating her time to improving the lives of others, she was singing in the church choir, bettering the community with the Rotary Club, expressing her creativity through a variety of crafts, volunteering at the cancer wellness center, and being a dedicated loving mother and wife. Her positive, faithful, and genuine nature always touched countless lives around her.
Leah is survived by her husband, Jim; daughter, Allison (Chris) Van Wormer; son, Joseph (Rachael) Sardone; mother, Alma Singleton; brothers and sisters, Lynette (Wally) David, Lorene (Jim) Greer, Larry Singleton, and Lloyd (Edie) Singleton; and various aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at 11 a.m., at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Peachtree City. Interment will follow at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 at the funeral home.
