Gustavus Adolphus College Choir to perform at COS

The Gustavus Choir will present a concert at 7 p.m. on Mon., Jan. 30, at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church, 101 N. Peachtree Parkway in Peachtree City.

Under the direction of Dr. Gregory J. Aune, the choir is on a 10-day tour with performances in Illinois, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida, and Minnesota.

The Gustavus Choir is the flagship choral ensemble at Gustavus Adolphus College, Saint Peter, Minn. This year’s program will feature the music of Haitian composer Sydney Guillame, Norwegian composer Odd Overøye, Frank Ticheli, and British composer Will Todd. The choir will also premier a newly-commissioned work by Minnesota composer Craig Carnahan, “A Great Multitude,” and a recently-written work by Walter Pelz, “If You Continue in My Word.”

According to Christ Our Shepherd Minister in Music David Beecher, “The choir is recognized for its musical approach to singing and its enthusiastic and polished performances of a broad array of choral masterworks.” It has toured extensively throughout the United States for the past 84 years; every four years the choir tours internationally.

The importance of music in the college’s undergraduate curriculum easily established: over one-third of its more than 2,400 students register for music courses and participate in some 30 performing ensembles.

Gustavus Adolphus College is a private liberal arts college in Saint Peter, Minn. that prepares students “for lives of leadership, service, and lifelong learning.”
