Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Newnan has announced it will share with the community its fifth annual drive-thru nativity, “The Greatest Gift,” scheduled for Dec. 8-11, 6-9:30 p.m. each night at the church.

The program will present the Christmas story, the birth of Jesus Christ, to the greater community in 10 live scenes. This is the only drive-thru nativity like this in south metro Atlanta, according to church officials.

“Cornerstone’s Drive-Thru Nativity is all about the greatest gift ever given, the birth of Jesus,” said Paul Griffin, project chairman and Cornerstone UMC member. “We want the community to see, hear and experience the real meaning of Christmas. For some it’s a reminder, for some it will be the first time they learn of the true meaning of Christmas. We cannot wait to share this with the community.”

People will receive a narration CD (English or Spanish) at the entrance of the drive-thru, and each car will be guided on a ten-scene journey depicting the birth of Jesus. A nightly cast and crew of 130-plus people will help tell the story. Coffee and hot chocolate will be served throughout the evening under the church pavilion.

The scenes include the foretelling of the coming Messiah; the angel Gabriel’s visit to Mary; Caesar’s palace and the decree for the census; Mary and Joseph being turned away at the Inn; the Wise men on the way to Bethlehem; and the traditional Nativity scene, among others.

“This is Cornerstone’s gift to the community, there is no charge,” Griffin said. “At Cornerstone we want to spread God’s message, and what better way to do that than through telling the awesome story of the greatest gift ever given.”

It will take place on the church grounds at 2956 Hwy. 154 in Newnan (Thomas Crossroads, the intersection of Hwys. 154 and 34). There is no charge to attend.
