Louise Shatley Yates passed away peacefully October 14, 2016 after short illness.
She was born June 27, 1931 in Elizabethton, Tenn., the third daughter of George Lester Shatley and Ida Mae Barbrow. She was happily married to her loving husband, John Edward “Jack” Yates for nearly 30 years until his death in 2013.
She is survived by her children, George David and Yvette Gordon Elliott, Jesse Carlton Elliott, and John Freeman and Laura Elliott, her step children, John and Ellen Yates, Judy Papageorge, Kim Yates, and James Yates, as well as 13 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. She is also survived by one loving brother, L.B. Shatley of Hampton, Tenn., as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Marcelle Louise “Marcy” Elliott, two sisters, Rita V. Harris and Norma Babo, and one brother, James Howard Shatley.
She was a long time member of Saint Stephen United Methodist Church in Charlotte, N.C. prior to her move back to Georgia.
A private family graveside service is planned. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Southwest Christian Care, 7225 Lester Road, Union City, Ga. 30291.
She is a grand lady who will be forever missed by us all.
