(Martha) Marie Bowers joined God’s heavenly choir on September 23 with her daughter and niece singing by her side.  

A beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, teacher, and friend, Marie embraced life with her whole heart, leaving deep impressions of joy and generosity on all who knew her.  

Born November 23, 1923 on a farm in Indiana, she received a Bachelor of Music Education from Manchester College. In 1947, She married her great love, Red. They had one daughter, Kim Marie.

The family moved to Overland Park, Kan. in 1967 where Marie taught music and directed children’s choirs.  In 1992, the couple moved to Fayetteville, Ga. and Marie worked alongside Kim at Counterpane Montessori, teaching there until the age of 75.  Marie and Red were active members of Covenant Presbyterian Church.  

Red passed in 1995 after 48 years of happy marriage. Marie spent her final years close to her daughter and son-in-law at Magnolia Senior Living in Loganville, Ga.

Marie’s faith in God, zest for living, love of family and teaching guided her life. She is remembered by: her daughter and son-in-law Kim Marie and Mark Baran; step grandsons Chase and Christian Baran; brother and sister-in-law Chuck and Micki Sponseller; niece Keli DeWitt, her husband David, and daughters Dori, Audrey, and Livi DeWitt; nephew Troy Sponseller; and many loving friends.  

Memorial service is Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 11 a.m.  Covenant Presbyterian Church, Fayetteville, GA.
