Peachtree City is this year’s Little League state champion.
An all-star squad from Peachtree City Little League went undefeated in the district tournament (3-0) and state tournament (5-0), defeating Columbus 7-5 in the state final to earn a spot in the Southeast Regional. Peachtree City hosted the district and state tournaments this year.
The squad is scheduled to depart today for Warner Robins, and its first regional game is scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m. against the Virginia state champion. The game is to be televised on ESPN3, according to the team’s coach, Richard Lopez.
The Southeast Regional is an eight-team tournament with players from Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia. The championship game is Wednesday.
The winner of the tournament advances to the Little League World Series Aug. 18-28 in Williamsport, Penn.
