Gwin Heartwell Palmer, Jr., 79, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 16, 2016.
Gwin had a great sense of humor that was matched by his love of family and friends and the energy he invested in those relationships. Born in Lanett, Ala. to Gwin Heartwell Palmer, Sr. and Letha Barber Palmer, he graduated from Lanett High school, served in the US Air Force as an aircraft mechanic, and was employed as a mechanic with Delta Air Lines for 34 years. Gwin had a passion for football – college or professional, loved the Alabama Crimson Tide and had front row season tickets to the Atlanta Falcons for 50 years. In his retirement years, he was able to enjoy his love of being in the woods for every hunting season.
Gwin leaves behind his beloved wife, Hope, who was his high school sweetheart, and his daughter Shana, who was his pride and joy. He also leaves behind sisters, Mrs. Julia Kent and Mrs. Peggy Ohm, both of New Braunfels, Texas; sister-in-law Toni Pike and her husband Paul; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and dear, wonderful friends. He will be dearly missed, but warmly remembered for a lifetime of memories and love.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 23, 2016, at 3 p.m., at Fayette Presbyterian Church, Fayetteville. The family will receive friends from 2-3 p.m. prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
