A new addition along Veterans Parkway is expected this summer in the form of a roundabout at what will become the entrance to the planned Pinewood Forrest residential, office and retail development.
Located approximately 1,000 south of the intersection of Veterans Parkway and Sandy Creek Road, Veterans Parkway will be widened to four lanes on either side of the roundabout. Each of the lanes will be 12 feet in width.
Each side of the roundabout will include a safety zone 12 feet or greater in width for pedestrians. The interior of the roundabout will be approximately 100 feet in diameter, according to plans submitted to the Fayetteville Planning Department.
The west side of the roundabout will serve as a future entrance to the 288-acre Pinewood Atlanta Studios lot while the east side will serve as the entrance to the coming residential, office and retail Pinewood Forrest development.
Both sides of the roundabout on the east side of the roadway will include 7-foot sidewalks that continue into the Pinewood Forrest development.
Plans for the the east side show the road and sidewalks continuing for some distance into Pinewood Forrest, with the entrance road splitting with a north-south orientation at two locations inside the property.
Pinewood Forrest Project Manager Jim Pace said the development is securing the required permits, adding that construction is expected to get underway shortly.
The roundabout is a privately-funded project. Pinewood Forrest developers in 2015 estimated the cost of the roundabout at $680,000.
A pedestrian tunnel is also in the offing and will be installed by the county at a future date based on the prior intergovernmental development agreement.
