Take a motorcycle or scooter to work

The Georgia Motorcycle Safety Program (GMSP) and the Department of Driver Services (DDS) are encouraging motorcycle riders to ride to work Monday, June 20.

This year marks the 25th annual International Ride to Work Day. On this day, workers will commute via motorcycles and scooters to demonstrate the efficiency and other positive benefits of two and three-wheel vehicles.

“Each year, millions of motorcyclists participate worldwide,” said GMSP manager Tom Komjathy. “On Ride to Work Day, large numbers of motorcycle and scooters are ridden to work, which helps to demonstrate how these vehicles make parking easier, help traffic flow better and consume fewer resources per mile.”

With the increasing number of riders, motorcyclists and scooters are proving to be an economical, efficient and fun way to commute. Ride to Work Day also provides the opportunity for riders to practice good riding habits of, Share the Road and Riding Unimpaired.

“Riding a motorcycle to work is a great commute option for those whose are properly licensed and capable of safely handling a motorcycle,” said DDS Commissioner Bert Brantley.   “If you are not properly licensed, please consider a GMSP training class to ensure you are sharing the road safely.”
