Some students in grades 1-3 at Robert J. Burch Elementary School have a unique opportunity that makes reading a special treat once a week.

This is the second year that students at Burch Elementary have participated in the CAREing Paws, Inc. Reading Program. The “CARE” in CAREing Paws stands for Canines Assisting Rehabilitation and Education.

Miller, the Reading Dog, comes to school once a week throughout the school year. Students are given the opportunity to visit with and read to Miller helping students improve their reading accuracy and fluency, as well as build their confidence as readers.

This program promotes literacy skills and recognizes the special bond between service dogs and the people they serve.

Burch students are pictured with Miller and his trainer, Sarah Huxford. These Burch students were recently recognized for completing their year in the CAREing Paws, Inc. Reading Program.
