A local school brought home a team state title and several local athletes captured individual championships at last weekend’s GHSA boys state track meet in Jefferson.
Landmark was the team winner in the A Private classification, while three county teams cracked the top 10 in AAAA: Sandy Creek (seventh), Whitewater (eighth) and Fayette County (tenth). Starr’s Mill placed fourth in AAAAA.
Here is a roundup of top-five individual finishers:
For the Panthers, Michael Runyan and Ben Runyon finished 1-2 in the pole vault while Ryan Spiecha was first in the shot put and third in the discus. Drew Latham of Northgate was fifth in the discus.
For the Patriots, Micheal Jones won the 110-meter hurdles and the team of Amin Shaheed, Ian Barnes, Noah Williams and Collins Livinus took first place in the 4×400-meter relay.
Coming in fifth in the 4×100-meter relay was the team of Jones, Barnes, Korey Banks and Javan Hawes.
For the Wildcats, Parker Nail placed fourth in the 1600-meter run.
For the Tigers, Seth Holloway was fourth in the long jump and fifth in the 200-meter dash. Jalen Ridges came in fifth in the 300-meter hurdles.
For the War Eagles, Drew Anderson won the discus and was third in the shot put. Caleb Cobb was second in the triple jump. Nicolas Toomer placed third in the 400-meter dash, fourth in the triple jump and fifth in long jump. Stockton McGuire came in third in the pole vault. Brandon Stone finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles. Taylor Snyder was third and Kermit Jackson fourth in the 800-meter run. The team of Snyder, Donovan Pickett, Joshua Cobb and Bruin Hayes was fifth in the 4×400-meter relay.
