Jade Nelson, a student at Tuskegee University, received the top scholarship awarded by the James M. and Erma T. Freemont Foundation. Nelson was named a 2016-17 Distinguished Freemont Scholar.

The Freemont Foundation is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization that provides scholarships for deserving students who are planning careers in the healthcare and science professions.  Ten scholarships were awarded this year to high school, undergraduate and graduate students across the country.

Jade is from Fairburn.  As a rising third-year student, she is pursuing her dreams of becoming a veterinarian.  She is a member of the Pre-Vet Club and Community Service Club.  She holds a 4.0 grade point average.

“The Freemont Foundation sees potential in me and they believe I can reach my goal,” said Nelson.  “I truly thank the Freemont Foundation for seeing a hard working student and lending a helping hand.”
