Flat Rock Middle is conducting its annual Pink Out to raise money and awareness for breast cancer.

As part of the Pink Out, staff and students purchase pink bows and bands. Staff members can also pay to wear jeans with the funds going to the cause. The school is already well on its way to their goal of raising $1,000 this year. Due to the overwhelming support, they will hold another Pink out day soon.

Students have been involved by sharing cancer statistics on the morning announcements, sharing stories of family members who are battling or working with cancer survivors, and proudly wearing pink to raise awareness of the disease.

The initiative is led by teacher Melinda White.

“We plan to embed a discussion about why people wear pink into a future Leader in Me activity about empathy and showing kindness towards others,” said White.

Over the past 5 years, Flat Rock Fighters has raised more than $7,500. They have made direct donations to the American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, and Fayette County Relay for Life to honor and celebrate Flat Rock survivors and those who are still “in the fight.”
