Richard Frederick Apel died at Kindred LaFayette Nursing home on April 30, 2016 from natural causes. He was 91.
Mr. Apel was born on September 22, 1924 in New Jersey, to his parents Eugene and Eva Lillian Apel. His love for boats and cars or anything that goes led him to his job of service manager for GM in several states. After retiring from GM, Mr. Apel spent his latter years moving motor homes and seeing the country. His dedication to his church family and friends will be remembered by all in Jacksonville, Fla. where he and his wife resided until 2012. He then relocated to Fayetteville, Ga. for his remaining years.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Betsy Anne Carter Apel; his daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Mike Lyles of Riverdale, Ga.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Eugene Apel Jr., Clarence Apel, and Arno Apel.
There will be a memorial service for Mr. Apel on June 18, 2016 at 3 p.m. at Fayette Presbyterian Church with Reverand Doctor Alex Moses presiding. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Mr. Apel’s life.
