Mrs. Shirley Yvonne Brown, 80, passed away on May 8, 2016 at Franklin Rehabilitation Center in Franklin, Ga. after an extended illness.
Shirley was born in Jacksonville, Fla., on September 2, 1935, to parents Blanche Taylor Hines and Henry Hines Sr. She was a graduate of Jackson High School, Jacksonville, Fla. She began working at the Federal Reserve Bank in Jacksonville soon after graduation. There, she met James B. Brown, formally of Fayetteville, Ga. She married James on September 25, 1953, with whom she celebrated their 62nd Anniversary in 2015. In 1961, the family moved to College Park, Ga. Shirley was baptized and saved in the Franklin Baptist Church, Jacksonville, Fla. After her marriage, she became an active member of the United Methodist Church with James, becoming a member at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in College Park, Ga. and Fayetteville United Methodist Church in Fayetteville, Ga. Shirley worked as a bookkeeper at Lunsford Wilson Company, Atlanta, Ga. for more than 20 years, retiring in 1991. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and great-granddaughter Josie Paige Bowles.
She is survived by her husband James Brown of Fayetteville Ga.; daughter Joni (Mark) Bowles of Sharpsburg, Ga., James (Jimmy) Brown Jr. of Fayetteville, Mark (Jodie) Brown of Senoia, Ga., Michael (Cindy) Brown of Fayetteville; 8 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; brother, Henry Hines Jr (Betty Jo) of Callahan, Fla., and niece Debbie Hines (Yogi)Callahan, Fla.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 11, 2016, at 1 p.m., at the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville. Burial will follow at Westminster Memorial Gardens, Peachtree City. A reception will follow at the home of Bobby & Jennifer Crowdis, 160 Sunset Court, Senoia, Ga., 30276. The family will receive friends Tuesday, May 10, 2016, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
