The Fayette County Area Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc., recently presented the Bloom Our Youth, Inc. Board of Directors with a $1,500 donation earmarked for helping the organization to provide shelter and support to children who have been the victims of abuse, neglect, or other tragic circumstances beyond their control.
Muriel Powell, foundation chair for the Fayette County area chapter of Jack and Jill, presented the members of the organization with the donation at the 2016 annual Bloom Ball gala.
“One of the aims of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is to seek for all children the same advantages which we desire for our own,” stated Tanesha Jenkins, president of the Fayette County area chapter. “We are fully committed to making a difference in the lives of all children and in our community. The Fayette County Area Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. is thrilled to support the mission of Bloom to change the face of foster care children in Georgia.”
“Jack and Jill of America’s continued patronage has helped us to provide countless foster children in Georgia with warm clothes, safe homes, and hope for the future,” said Becky Davenport, executive director of Bloom. “In the past year, Bloom has provided clothing and supplies to more than 1,200 foster children from 60 Georgia counties. Our current level of outreach wouldn’t be possible without the support from organizations like Jack and Jill.”
Jack and Jill of America is a membership organization of mothers with children ages 2-19, dedicated to nurturing future African-American leaders by strengthening children through leadership development, volunteer service, philanthropic giving and civic duty. Today, Jack and Jill boasts over 230 chapters nationwide, representing over 40,000 family members.
Bloom Our Youth, Inc. (Bloom) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization located in Fayetteville which operates three programs for foster children: a children’s shelter called The Friday-Johnson Home, which houses up to 10 children and is located in south Fayette county; a Foster Parenting Program which recruits, trains and places children with local foster families; and a cost-free clothing resource center for foster children called The Bloom Closet.
