The Fayette County Parks and Recreation Department has announced registration for the next men’s (age 18 and older) softball season.
It is a Monday/Tuesday night men’s “A” league (Two-Up Equalizer HR rule). All teams will have twelve games (possible doubleheaders) scheduled on Monday nights, and all teams will be scheduled to play makeup games on Tuesday night of the following week. If there are multiple nights of postponed games, teams may be scheduled to play several consecutive Tuesday nights.
The season will begin April 11 with all games being played on Fields 6 and 7 at McCurry Park.
Registration is also being accepted for a men’s “B” league that will be played on Thursday nights (One-Up Equalizer HR rule). Tuesday would also be the makeup night for the Thursday league.
The Amateur Softball Association’s (ASA) 2016 edition of “Official Rules of Softball” will be the governing rules unless superseded by the county’s league/park rules.
To be eligible to participate, a person must be at least 18 years old at the time of participation.
Registration will be March 14-April 1. The entry fee is $500 per team ($550 if 50 percent or more of the players on a team are not Fayette County residents). Teams paying the in-county fee must show proof of residence for the Fayette County residents who are listed on their rosters.
The entry fee includes a mandatory ASA team registration fee. The FCPRD policy states that the entire entry fee and completed registration form must be submitted in order to be considered an official entry in the league.
Registration is taken on a first-come, first-served basis until the leagues are full. There will be a maximum of 12 teams on Monday nights and 12 teams on Thursday nights.
Any team with special scheduling requests is asked to let the department know upon registering. Consideration will be given but league officials must know before the schedule is completed. No games will be rescheduled unless postponsed due to weather or what the FCPRD deems extenuating circumstances.
The preseason coaches’ meeting is Monday, April 4, at 7 p.m. at the FCPRD office (back of building and downstairs) at 980 Redwine Road in Fayetteville.

Any teams planning to purchase new bats are encouraged to check with Wallace beforehand because several additional bats are on this season’s ASA non-approved list with ASA certification marks actually on the bats. All of these are listed on the ASA website.
