Newnan police investigators have one man in custody on murder charges and are searching for two others in connection with the shooting death of a Newnan man on Feb. 19 along the Newnan Crossing Bypass.
Officers at approximately 12:35 a.m. responded to the area of 121 Newnan Crossing Bypass near the Target store in reference to a vehicle accident, according to the Newnan Police Department.
Officers discovered a male victim in the driver’s seat of a silver Kia. The male had sustained a gunshot. Coweta County EMS units were called to the scene and determined that the victim was deceased. The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Travalas Acres of Newnan, reports said.
Officers were told that three males were seen fleeing the scene with at least one of them running east in the direction of the Newnan Crossing Apartments. Witnesses told officers that two of the man were seen running west in the direction of Ashley Park, according to reports.
A department spokesperson said detectives during the investigation were able to identify, locate and subsequently arrest 31-year-old Willie Louis Turner ll, of Newnan, in connection with this shooting. Turner has been charged with murder, according to Newnan Deputy Chief Rodney Riggs.
The investigation is ongoing.
