Jessie Louise Svensson, 98, passed away peacefully on January 16, 2016, survived by her children Lee, Paul, Jo & Al Jr. Her husband Al, her son Bill, and granddaughter Char preceded her.

Jessie lived the first half of her life in Minnesota before moving to Georgia with her husband in 1973.  She loved playing cards, was an avid golfer, an expert seamstress, and skilled knitter.  As a result, her children learned to never walk barefoot for fear of stepping on dropped sewing pins.  She was the cutest little 5 foot tall, 110 pound 90 year-old you ever met, always dressed to the nines.  Even when begged to wear safer shoes when shuffling behind her walker, she declined.  The shoes HAD to match the bag!  She got her first and only job at age 65 and worked until she was 80.  To keep herself marketable in the workforce, she acquired a computer and loved her AOL mail.  She was one spunky lady!

It’s no surprise Jessie graduated South High as the Salutatorian…and graduated the University of Minnesota, cum laude, with a major in economics in 1937. She was a passionate and talented investor, having learned to pinch every penny from her father.  She gave generously to charity: to our veterans, PBS and children’s health causes.  Jessie took very good care of her health and even in her final years had no medical conditions.  She was a smoker back in the day, until she read smoking is bad for you. She quit. She loved her Seagram’s VO, then read wine is healthier for you. No more VO.

Jessie is survived by her adoring 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson.  When they came of age, she did her best to inveigle them into a game of Gin Rummy, or Scrabble, and you’d often find them crying uncle sometime after midnight.

A memorial service will be held at Mowell Funeral Home in Peachtree City at 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 16.  In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice. It is fitting that Jessie asked for the hymn “Amazing Grace” to be played at her service. No two words could better describe her.
