When Peachtree City resident Billye Gordon, a former ICU nurse at Piedmont Fayette Hospital, returned to the hospital for total knee replacement surgery, she proudly kicked off a new tradition for homebound orthopedic surgery patients by banging a gong with a femur bone.
“I really applaud the Piedmont Fayette joint replacement program,” Gordon said. “It was wonderful. They answered every question, had all of the equipment you might need and had everything coordinated so well. Everyone clapped for me and said they couldn’t wait to bang the gong themselves.”
A veteran of the United States Navy, Gordon was walking and doing exercises with other joint replacement patients the day after surgery. She did so well, she was able to go home a day early.
“Everybody in the program was so supportive,” Gordon, who hopes to have the same surgery done by Dr. David Gordon on her left knee soon, said. “We laughed through the crying and cried through the laughter.”
