Team Sound Barrier, a Peachtree City BMX team, recently competed in the Georgia State BMX Championship hosted by Cobb County BMX in Powder Springs. The championship is the culmination of each competitor’s top three finishes at any of the six USABMX-sanctioned tracks in Georgia.
Several team members earned state rankings and the privilege of running the Georgia state champion number plate throughout the 2016 BMX racing season. Here is a summary of the top finishers’ results.
John Wilbanks is the #1 State Champion in the 12-year-old Expert Class and the #1 State Champion in the 12-year-old Cruiser Class.
Austin Thompson is the #2 State Champion in the 12-year-old Expert Class.
Daniel McCard is the #1 State Champion in the 16-year-old Intermediate Class.
Bryson Hill is the #3 State Champion in the 8-year-old Novice Class.
Ian Durant is the #5 State Champion in the 8-year-old Novice Class.
Emily Durant is the #9 State Champion in the 10-year-old Novice Class.
Other members of Team Sound Barrier that compete in any number of local, state and national races are 6-year-old Aidan Thompson, 7-year-old Koen Hall, 10-year-old Jacob Oliver and 10-year-old Xander Head.
“If there was a single aspect that I would change with this wonderful sport is that our riders do not get recognize for the hard work and dedication it takes to be competitive in this sport at the local, state and national levels,” said team spokesperson Chuck Thompson.
