Whitewater’s boys obliterated the field at last week’s county cross-country championships, with a team score that was almost as good as mathematically possible.
The Wildcats’ top five runners, who account for the team score, crossed the finish line first, second, third, fourth and ninth. McIntosh had the fifth and sixth spots while Sandy Creek, who hosted the meet at Inman Elementary, took the seventh and eighth spots.
Whitewater finished the meet with 19 points, followed by McIntosh at 44 and Sandy Creek at 85. Starr’s Mill, Our Lady of Mercy and Fayette County rounded out the field.
On the girls’ side, McIntosh took the team crown with individual finishes of first, second, fourth and sixth. The Lady Chiefs had 23 team points, ahead of Whitewater (58), Starr’s Mill (68) and Fayette County (79).
Also last weekend, Landmark competed at Strong Rock in a meet that included teams from all classifications. The boys placed eight runners in the top 13 including two of the top three, while the girls placed five in the top eight including the top two.
