A total of 38 students from Flat Rock Middle and Sandy Creek High demonstrated the strength of their math skills at the fourth annual Math Competitions Boot Camp at Morehouse College, with seven of them bringing home top honors.
Sandy Creek High had 26 students participating in the competition with seven of them receiving top honors, and nearly sweeping the high school level.
Phaidra Buchanan earned the overall award for the high school level, scoring the highest of all competitors. John Suess placed first in ninth grade; Krista Jackson took first in 11th grade; and Heyley Gatewood finished first in 12th grade.
Also participating from Sandy Creek were Angel Adams, Dominic Adams, Emmanuel Aneke, Stephanie Arreoia, Anna Bridgeman, Emma Bryan, Janna Campbell, Alvin Cotson, Rachel Davis, Emily DeGrange, Akilah Duncan, Elmer Gonzalez, Kati Gossett, Anna Hyde, Jin Kim, Ethan Knight-Scott, Kristina Longacre, Karim Naji, Ping Ni, Karena Oun, Abraham Respert, and Amber Sullivan.
Flat Rock Middle had 12 students attend the boot camp, with three students earning placements.
Daniel Chapadeau took first place in eighth grade, and Isaac Presberg placed second in eighth grade. Emma Bryan finished second in ninth grade.
Flat Rock’s additional competitors included Sydney Schulten, Marlon Rosales, Ahmad Duncan, Daniel Belcher, Cameron Bowsky, Brandon Hurlock, Massai Berrian, JR Eickner-Baumann, and Bethelehem Woldegabriel.
