Chiefs, Patriots, War Eagles win openers

McIntosh 16, Fayette Co. 7: The Tigers got on the board first on a 1-yard run by Corey Andrews in the first quarter. The score remained 7-0 until the fourth quarter. Bradley Ector crossed the goal line from 2 yards out to tie the score, then the Chiefs got a safety on an incomplete pass from the end zone. Ector closed the scoring out with a 47-yard run. In total yardage the Tigers outgained the Chiefs 308-193, as Makenzie Stills threw for 216 yards to six different receivers, four of whom had catches of 24 or more yards. Ector rushed for 111 yards on 13 carries, and the McIntosh defense intercepted three passes.

 

Sandy Creek 41, Creekview 0: In the first of last weekend’s Corky Kell Classic games at McEachern High School, the Patriots scored early and often while dominating Creekview on both sides of the ball. Bryant Walker completed 12 of 16 passes and threw scoring passes to Major Weems and Parker Mallett. Jaelen Greene rushed for 83 yards and a pair of scores, and Eric Woods ran for a touchdown. Marvin Hubbard scored on an 86-yard kickoff return. The Sandy Creek defense held Creekview to -7 rushing yards for the game.

 

Landmark 34, CHS 22: The War Eagles opened on the road in north Georgia and downed the Lions in a nonregion game, taking the lead for good in the third quarter. Stockton McGuire and Lofton Tidwell combined for 250 yards and four touchdowns on the ground, and Tidwell added an 88-yard kickoff return for a score. Brandon Stone and Payton Hayes were the team’s leading tacklers on the night.
