Fayette Senior Services recently recognized Fayetteville’s efforts in supporting local organizations such as Meals On Wheels. City employees have adopted a route to help make a difference to those in need.
City manager Ray Gibson first reached out to FSS and after meeting with FSS Meals on Wheels Coordinator Natalie Hynson, he knew that the program would be the right fit.
“One thing I have found since coming to Fayetteville is the dedication of our employees and elected officials to the community; a dedication that goes far beyond basic duties and responsibilities,” said Gibson. “After meeting with the Fayette Senior Services team and seeing the many great programs they are offering, our management team decided it would be an excellent opportunity to assist those in need by adopting a Meals On Wheels route. Fayetteville greatly appreciates all that FSS does within Fayette County and we look forward to assisting in any way possible.”
FSS is always looking for new volunteers for delivering meals and Hynson was delighted when the city approached her to lend a helping hand.
“It’s great to see a city managed by a group of professionals willing to get to know their community by serving the needy. I am impressed by their enthusiasm to adopt a local route,” said Hynson.
The local program delivers more than 40,000 meals to homebound seniors in the Fayette County community every year. There is no charge for this service for eligible seniors, but donations are greatly appreciated to help offset the costs of operations and to help the effort go even further in serving homebound seniors.
