John Everett Routon, 69, of Peachtree City, Ga. passed away on Saturday, July 11, 2015.
John is survived by his loving wife Paula (Stevenson) Routon of 48 years. John has three siblings, Dr. James L Routon (Emmaline), Jack A. Routon (Brenda) and Barbara Nestlehutt (Leon). Carrying on his legacy are his four children, Anna Michele Routon, Jeremiah Shain Routon (Gail), Gabrielle Seeby (Justin) and Jessica Stricklen (Chris); and 12 living grandchildren Cory Martin (Justin), Danielle Hancock, Sadie Hancock, Jackson Routon, Anna Routon, Abigail Routon, Emma Routon, Isabella Seeby, Everett Seeby, Noah Stricklen, Caroline Stricklen, Noelle Stricklen and one great grandchild John Martin.
John was born to Steven and Beatrice Routon on April 11, 1946 in Atlanta. John grew up in Red Oak and graduated from Campbell High School. He attended Augusta College before entering the Army. He served 20 years in the military and retired as a Major and a decorated Vietnam Veteran. After military retirement John spent 10 years at the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department and started the school resource officer program in Fayette County. John had a passion for recreational tree climbing and became a pioneer within this close knit community.
John was a loving husband, father, grandfather. He was a great man of character, well loved and respected by everyone who was blessed to know him or call him a friend.
A Memorial Service will be held at Peachtree City Christian Church on Saturday July 18th at 2 p.m. with a reception to follow at the church.
