Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church’s 10th annual Yard Sale for Ranch on Jesus Ministries in Uganda will be held this year on July 17 and 18 at the Church in Peachtree City. The sale benefits children in East Africa.

This year’s sale will run from 7 am to 2 p.m. Friday, July 17 and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 18. Donations can be dropped off at the church through Wednesday, July 15, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Only flat screen TVs will be accepted. Clothing should be limited to in-style items in good condition.

The annual Ranch on Jesus Yard Sale  grew out of the needs witnessed by one of the church’s college students while she was on a mission trip to Africa in 2004. Jamie Rosser Laslo met Sarah Kamara who was rescuing children off the streets in Uganda and giving them food and shelter. Jamie says Sarah’s limited resources weighed on her heart and upon returning home she challenged her church to assist her in helping Sarah and the orphans.

The first sale in 2004 raised over $7,000 and, with the continued support of Carriage Lane, a bond grew between the church and the children.

Through a child sponsorship program started by Jamie and further fund-raising efforts, Ranch on Jesus Ministries was able to assist many more children who were either orphans or from families unable to care for them.

Ranch on Jesus Ministries has expanded and is a vibrant part of the community in Uganda, focusing on foster care, family preservation, reuniting orphans with relatives, and serving as an emergency children’s home.

The Ranch on Jesus Primary School now provides opportunities for hundreds of area children with training and education so that their future families might break the cycle of poverty trapping many Ugandans.

Many of the original group of children Jamie met in Uganda are now young adults with bright futures ahead. One has completed her education and is a bookkeeper.

Another is enrolled as a university business student and another, the oldest of the orphans, is married with a young daughter and is employed as a supervisor by a design group.

Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church is at the corner of Carriage Lane and Ga. Highway 54, across from Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Peachtree City.
