July 4 celebration in downtown Newnan

Main Street Newnan kicks off Newnan’s Independence Day activities with the 4th of July Parade which begins at 9 a.m. at Veteran’s Memorial Park and will end at Greenville Street Park.

All interested participants are welcome to meet at Veteran’s Memorial Park by 8:30 a.m. in time to line up for the parade. Registration is only necessary for participants that intend to use a motorized vehicle to pull a float, and participation is cost free. To feature a float in the parade, visit www.mainstreetnewnan.com to fill out the online registration form. Main Street Newnan requests that all registration forms are submitted by Friday, June 26.

Following the parade, the monthly Market Day will be hosted from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. All visitors are encouraged to browse through the Market after the parade to see what unique specialty items the local artisans, artists, and farmers have to sell.

The Main Street Newnan Market features handmade, homemade and homegrown products, with new vendors and new products each month. The Market will feature over 50 unique spaces, with a variety of one-of-a-kind gift items. Market Day favorites include fresh locally grown produce, honey, jams & jellies, salsa, pottery, art, handmade children’s clothes, hand-woven baskets, leather products, freshly baked goods, handmade furniture, handmade birdhouses, wood-art, fiber-art, wreathes and floral design, and much more. The Market Day is open to the public and there is no admission charge for visitors.

Pickin’ on the Square will begin at 11 a.m. July 4 around the Court House Square. Any musician with an acoustic instrument is invited to join. In the past, bluegrass musicians have found this opportunity to be especially appealing.

Free public parking is available along downtown streets, and in the city’s public parking lots located at 13 Lagrange Street, 25 Lagrange Street, 22 Spring Street, 6 First Avenue, 50 East Broad Street, 65 East Broad Street, 41 East Washington Street, and 22 East Broad Street.

The Newnan Rotary club will also host the 30th annual local Independence Day festivities the evening of July 4 at Newnan High School’s Drake Stadium, less than a mile away from Downtown Newnan. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will consist of patriotic festivities, food, children’s activities, entertainment and a fireworks display. The Rotary Club of Newnan is supported with co-sponsorship for this event by The City of Newnan, Coweta County, and Coweta County Schools.

Fireworks begin at dusk. Admission is free.
