UPDATE-May 6: A former Tyrone man wanted for shooting a resident of the Whispering Pines Mobile Home Park in Tyrone on May 2 was taken into custody in the early morning hours of May 6 after he was corralled by officers from Tyrone, Peachtree City and the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office.

The vehicle driven by James Boatner was spotted by a Tyrone patrol officer at the mobile home park just after midnight, according to Tyrone Police Dept. spokesman Phillip Nelson.

Nelson said the officer was grouping with other units near the entrance when Boatner fled in his vehicle. Officers pursued and Boatner exited the vehicle and fled on foot after officers attempted a traffic stop, Nelson said.

K-9 units from Peachtree City and the sheriff’s office were called to the scene where officers from the three agencies took Boatner into custody in a field off Senoia Road approximately two hours later, Nelson said.

ORIGINAL STORY: Tyrone police investigators are looking for a former Tyrone resident suspected of shooting a man at his residence on May 2. The suspect is believed to have fired shots at another residence a short time later.

James Boatner, 35, previously of Tyrone, is suspected of arriving at the Whispering Pines Mobile Home Park on Senoia Road at approximately 5:20 p.m. on May 2, according to department spokesman Phillip Nelson.

Nelson said witnesses saw Boatner drive up to the home and fire three shots, all of which hit a man standing on his front porch. The motive for the shooting is current unknown, Nelson said.

Nelson said the injuries sustained by the resident are believed to be non-life-threatening.

Boatner fled the scene and, according to eyewitnesses, drove to a nearby location where he fired two shots at a residence on Lynnwood Avenue. No one was struck in the incident, Nelson said.

Boatner is believed to be driving a black Ford F-150 pickup truck with tag number PRM4259.

Nelson advised that Boatner is considered to be armed and dangerous, adding that he has a criminal record.
