The Fayette Humane Society has announced the receipt of a $2,500 grant from the Petco Foundation. The organization will use the funds to provide veterinary care for cats and dogs rescued by FHS to get them ready for adoption.

While new pet families pay an adoption fee to FHS, this often does not cover all the costs of the pet’s care, which include veterinary examinations and tests (heartworm for dogs, FLV/FIV for cats), vaccinations, and spay/neuter surgeries. FHS also makes sure all pets have been de-wormed and are free of fleas and other parasites before they go home with their families. The grant from the Petco Foundation will help subsidize the adoption fees to cover these expenses.

Incorporated in 1973, FHS is the oldest nonprofit humane organization in Fayette County. Staffed entirely by volunteers, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit is supported by individual and corporate donations. FHS does not have a shelter; the rescued cats and dogs are socialized in foster homes until they can be adopted.
