Wildcats take region track crown

The Whitewater Wildcats won the Region 5-AAAA boys track championship last weekend in Carrollton.

The 4×400-meter relay team of  Jonothan Womack, Mathew Grant, Langton Bryant, and Lionel Jones III took first place, broke the school record and set what team officials said is the fastest AAAA time in the state this year in the event.

Womack won the 400-meter dash and set a new school record in addition to finishing second in the 200-meter dash. Parker Nail finished first at 1,600 meters and 3,200 meters, while Langston Bryant won the long jump and was third at 200 meters. Hunter Griffin came in first in the shot put.

Jones was second in the 800-meter run and third at 400 meters. Don Harp was second in the 3,200-meter run and Harry Harp finished third in the 1,600-meter run.

Madias Loper placed third in the discus, Sam Stover came in fourth in the 110-meter hurdles and Nick Watson placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles and triple jump.

The Lady Wildcats finished fourth as a team, with Noelle Parker winning the shot put and coming in fourth in the discus. Madison Mueller was second in the 100-meter dash and Alexis Smith came in third in the 3,200-meter run. Sonali Anderson was third in the 800-meter run and fourth in the 400.
