It’s state playoff time for high school soccer, and as usual there are several Fayette teams in the mix in various classifications.
McIntosh and Starr’s Mill finished 1-2 in the Region 4-AAAAA standings, meaning both teams will host first-round matches. They take the field April 29, as South Effingham plays McIntosh and Statesboro faces Starr’s Mill.
Whitewater, as the second seed from Region 5-AAAA, will host Grady that day as well, while fourth-seeded Fayette County travels to St. Pius.
Landmark and Our Lady of Mercy took the top two seeds in Area 4 of Class A. That means Landmark has a first-round bye while Our Lady of Mercy hosts Athens Christian May 1.
The girls’ brackets in AAAAA and AAAA call for first-round action April 28. In AAAAA, second-seeded McIntosh hosts Camden County and third-seeded Starr’s Mill plays at Glynn Academy. Second-seeded Whitewater hosts a AAAA matchup against Grady, while fourth-seeded Sandy Creek plays at Marist.
Our Lady of Mercy captured a #1 seed in Class A and has a first-round bye.
