Cokes Chapel United Methodist Church will host a Passover Seder in the contemporary worship center, this Friday, March 27 at 6:30 p.m. The event is family-friendly and the community is invited to attend.

A Seder is traditionally served on the first night of Passover to commemorate the angel of death passing over the Israelites.  The Passover also signified the last meal eaten by the Jewish people before they left Egypt heading to the Promised Land.

“The Seder is an opportunity to experience first-hand a ritual Jesus participated in throughout His life, said Cokes Chapel’s assistant pastor, Dr. Wayne Ellis. “Prophetically, Jesus shared a final Seder with His disciples on the night before His crucifixion. Christians might not know that the sacrament of Holy Communion has its roots in the Passover meal.”

One of the evening’s highlights is a responsive reading called, the Haggadah.

“The Haggadah is a series of questions posed by children about the importance of the Passover, Ellis said. “I have found that children enjoy having an active role in the meal.  Attendees will receive a brochure that provides additional insight into the Passover and the Seder.

“Cokes Chapel continues to offer opportunities for the congregation and the community to experience Jesus’ Passion and Easter worship in new and different ways,” said Cokes Chapel’s lead pastor, Dr. Mark Jordan. “The Seder will engage attendees through food, corporate prayer, and history. I believe the Seder will provide a wonderful and tangible opportunity for learning and experiencing the story of God’s love for us.”

The meal will feature roasted lamb, dried fruits, bitter herbs, and other elements. Reservations are strongly recommended.  A limited number of tickets will be available for sale during the event.
