James Talmadge Evans, 81, of Fayetteville, Ga., went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 3, 2015. 

Mr. Evans is preceded in death by his parents Moody Talmadge Evans and Lena Eason Evans, and his sister Doris Gould. 

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ramona Westbrook Evans, daughter Jessica Evans of Cumming, Ga., daughter and son-in-law Jennifer and Brian Preston of Locust Grove, Ga. and four grandchildren, Jordan and Isabella Selander and Avery and Emery Preston.

 

Mr. Evans graduated from Wrens High School, went to work with Georgia Power in Athens, served two years in the Army, stationed in Alaska, and returned to Athens resuming his work with Georgia Power while he attended the University of Georgia, where he graduated in 1963. His career with Georgia Power spanned 38 years and took him all over north Georgia. He worked in Atlanta, Rome, Cornelia, Athens and Forest Park. 

He served 20 years on the board of directors of Georgia Power Federal Credit Union, and was chairman of the board for a time. After retirement and up until the time of his death, he was a member of the Georgia Power South Metro District Ambassadors.

Mr. Evans was also a former member of the Riverdale Lions Club, serving at different times as president, secretary and treasurer.

Mr. Evans thoroughly enjoyed retirement by traveling to many different cities and countries with family and friends. He was a loyal Bulldog, through and through, and rarely missed going to see his Dawgs play in Athens. An avid sports fan, he loved watching football and basketball and loved to both play and watch golf. He also never missed an opportunity to ride a roller coaster.

Mr. Evans was actively involved with his church New Hope Baptist and especially with the Journey Sunday School class. Jim was funny, compassionate, loyal and fun-loving person who had a way with both children and adults.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 9, at 11 a.m. at Parrott Funeral Home in Fairburn, Ga. on Monday, March 9. Visitation will be held at 10 a.m. prior to the funeral. Burial with will take place in Canton, Ga., at the Georgia National Cemetery at 2:30 p.m.
