A Monday afternoon accident involving a crane at Pinewood Atlanta Studios resulted in no serious injuries. A new soundstage building is being checked after a truss being carried by the crane hit the building as the crane was falling.
Fayetteville Fire Chief Alan Jones said a call about the accident came in at approximately 4 p.m. on Monday. It appeared that the crane operating on one of the new soundstages, Stage 7, had been lifting a truss in place when the crane collapse occurred, Jones said, adding that the crane after the accident was lying on the ground. Jones said it is not currently known what caused the crane to fall.
Jones said there were no serious injuries, adding that one employee who was walking around after the accident was transported for evaluation. “(The crane) didn’t appear to hit the building,” said Jones. “The load it was carrying hit the building.”
Jones said engineers on-site evaluated the building and will take steps to make sure the building is safe to enter so the crane can be removed.
