Betty Delia Camp Sexton, 80, of Fayetteville, Ga., died January 21, 2015, following complications due to a recent stroke.

Mrs. Sexton lived in Birmingham, Ala. for several years before returning to Georgia following the death of her husband of 51 years, the Rev. Dr. C. Sterling Sexton, who served as pastor of several Southern Baptist churches throughout Georgia. Mrs. Sexton served as secretary for the Fairburn and Flint River Baptist Associations in Georgia where Dr. Sexton was Director of Missions.

Mrs. Sexton was a much beloved Sunday School teacher in many of the churches where she and her husband served. In addition, she served as principal for Vacation Bible School for a number of years at Meadows Baptist Church in College Park, Ga.

Mrs. Sexton was born in Gadsden, Ala., to the late Elizabeth and Ruie Camp. She was a graduate of West Fulton High School, in Atlanta, and she lived most of her life in Georgia.

Mrs. Sexton loved to travel. She was proud to have visited all 50 states as well as every continent. She was an avid seamstress – she loved to knit, crochet, and needlepoint – and she enjoyed gardening and crossword puzzles.

While living in Birmingham, Mrs. Sexton was a member of Southside Baptist Church, where she was ordained and served as a deacon.

Mrs. Sexton is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law: Charles Sterling (Kathy) of Sevierville, Tenn.; David Michael (Patti) of Fayetteville, Ga.; Stephen Lawrence (Kathy) of Birmingham, Ala.; and LTC (Ret.) John Mark (Theresa) of Lawrenceville, Ga.

Other survivors include her siblings: Doris (Grady) Wigley of Augusta, Ga.; Bill Camp (Harriet) of Jefferson City, Mo.; Peggy Howard of Florence, Ala.; Judy Garcia (Tom) of Rockport, Texas; and Larry Camp of Tallahassee, Fla.

Mrs. Sexton is survived by seven grandchildren – Kimberly (Brian) Wilhoite; CPT (P) Christopher (Risha) Sexton; and Jan, Michael, Andrew, Caroline, and Jonathan Sexton. In addition, Mrs. Sexton is survived by four great-grandchildren: Sadie, Madelyn, and Avery Sexton; and Joshua Wilhoite.

Other survivors include her brother-in-law, Tommy Durden of Griffin, Ga.; an aunt; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and her faithful companion, “Miss Kitty.”

In addition to her husband and her parents, Mrs. Sexton was preceded in death by her brother, Jack, and her sister-in-law, Shirley Camp, of Geneva, N.Y.

The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Home Instead of Fayetteville, Ga., for their excellent companionship and care to Betty for the past four years.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Feb. 21, 2015, at Southside Baptist Church, Birmingham, Ala., with a reception and visitation to follow at the church.
