The Whitewater Middle School musicians selected to perform in front of the state’s music teachers will give a talent preview to their own community before heading to Savannah for the big show.
The Whitewater Middle School Symphonic Band led by Bill Melton is one of only two middle school bands in the state selected to perform at the Georgia Music Educators annual convention on Jan. 29. The two bands were chosen after a competitive selection process.
The public is invited to a preview concert Jan. 20 at 7 p.m. at Harp’s Crossing Baptist Church in Fayetteville.
The concert theme is “Connecting world cultures through wind band music” and will feature the North American premiere of a composition that was first performed at the Estonian Song and Dance Festival in Tallin, Estonia in July 2014.
The 2015 convention will mark the second time a Whitewater Middle School band has performed for music educators. Whitewater students first performed at the convention in 1999.
Jack Jean, Whitewater High School band director, will also participate in the convention as a special guest conductor, and recent Whitewater High School graduate Amy Melton will participate as a horn soloist.
