The time for Newnan’s annual Christmas parade is just around the corner. Complete with the theme a “Storybook Christmas,” the parade will be held downtown on Dec. 13 at 6 p.m.

The parade will begin at Lagrange Street and will proceed to North Court Square. The parade will make a right turn onto East Court Square then another right onto Greenville Street. The parade will continue along Greenville Street to the Coweta County Justice Center.

It’s a “Storybook Christmas” so bring on the best Christmas stories, said Newnan Public Information Officer Gina Snider, adding that the parade will include floats, walking groups, decorated cars and trucks and marching bands.

“We are looking forward to the parade this year as we enjoy the downtown lights in Newnan. It’s always an anticipated activity for the city. Christmas is a very special time and it is fun to help spread the Christmas cheer. To the delight of all the kids, Santa Claus is coming to town,” said Snider.

Snider said the city will be a part of the Toys for Tots campaign this year. All city buildings will have a drop-off for unwrapped toys. The local program has grown from its 2010 inception when it provided toys to 2,800 children.

During last year’s 2013 drive, Marines distributed 16,422 toys valued in excess of $120,000 to nearly 5,000 children in need throughout Fayette and Coweta counties. This was done with an all-volunteer force comprised of members from our local detachment of the Marine Corps League, community volunteers and the generosity of local residents, said Snider.

Snider said the toys and money collected are used in Fayette and Coweta counties until the local need is met. The exceptional generosity of businesses and county residents made it possible to bring Christmas joy to our local children in need, she said.

A portion of the proceeds of the Christmas Parade this year will benefit the Georgia Municipal Association’s Mayors’ Christmas Motorcade.
