His family is sad to announce that Oscar William “Chris” Gardner most recently of Hampton passed away peacefully in his sleep October 4, 2014. He will be greatly missed by all.
Oscar was born in Fulton county on March 22,1933 to Oscar & Mary Katherine Gardner. He married Earlene Edmondson on August 11, 1962 in Atlanta. He is survived by his wife and two children, Kelly Rich and her husband Danny and Shaun Gardner and his wife Twila. His grandchildren Ben Parker, Felicia Lawson, Jacob Call, Heather Call and Tiffani Gardner. His great grandchildren Maddy, Kalli, Savannah, Brinnly, Kadence, Harlow, JJ, David, Haylynn, Wyatt, Jessie and Henry. His brothers: Leroy and his wife Teresa, Charles and his wife Inez, Don and his wife Linda. And his sisters: Carolyn Brand Jackson and her husband James, Flora Love, Rebecca Collins and her husband Douglas. He was predeceased in death by his brother Edward and sister Delores Kilpatrick.
He graduated from Fulton High School after an adventurous childhood and Truett McConnell College where he became “Chris” from a nickname. He received an AA from Mercer University and Master of Divinity from Southeastern Theological Seminary. He was a pastor and comfort to many.
He & Earlene found a passion for real estate and opened Gardner Realty where he was a broker, appraiser & mentor/trainer for many. Eight years ago they participated as partners in Academy Properties doing property management. He was a lifetime Million Dollar Club sales agent & managed foreclosures for HUD for 20 years. He is leaving his imprint on hundreds of professionals state wide.
“Chris” was devoted to his family and community and worked always to help others. He was involved in politics, civic organizations and improved the counties he lived in. He was a genealogist and with his brother published several items. All who knew him recognized that he was a courageous man with a dry sense of humor. His love for us all will be his legacy and our memories of him.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Mowell Funeral Home, Fayetteville. Rev. Howard Greer Will officiate. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Atlanta. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5-7 p.m.
