Run from Domestic Violence 5K Run/Walk is today at   6 p.m. at Drake Field in Peachtree City. The Fayette County Republican Party FirstSaturday Breakfast Meeting will open at 9 am with the national anthem sung by Rebekah Hovis and be followed by a short presentation by Jordan Peeples, chairman of the Teen Republicans.

Parents of all Fayette County Schools will not want to miss a legislative update with Mary Kay Bacallao discussing what to expect next spring regarding the testing and school rating systems, what this means for the student, parent and college bound students.  She will be open to answering any questions you have on these issues.

The 15th Annual Southern Crescent Walk To End Alzheimer’s  is today in the parking lot of the Frederick Brown, Jr. Amphitheater in Peachtree City.  Participants include residents from seven counties on Atlanta’s south side: Clayton, Coweta, Fayette, Henry, Meriwether, South Fulton and Spalding.  Signup begins at 8 a.m.; walk begins at 9:30 a.m.  This is a family affair with entertainment and lunch provided.  Donations are appreciated.  For additional information visit:  act.alz.org/southerncrescent.

The race along the Stinky Trail will begin at 8 a.m. at the end of Gardner Park, located along Ga. Highway 74 across from the Baseball/Soccer Complex, and is limited to 200 runners.

Fayetteville Elementary School hosts a 5K Cub Run and 1 Mile Fun Run today. Race registration ends at 8 a.m. with the race beginning at 8:30 a.m.  The school welcomes sponsorships from individuals and businesses. The Peachtree City Garden Club will host its monthly meeting on today at The Bridge Community Center, 225 Willowbend Rd., in Peachtree City. Refreshments and socializing begin at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting starts at 10 a.m. Paula Johnson, club member and herb expert, will speak on “Culinary Herbs” – how to plant, care for and use herbs in recipes.  Guests are welcome. Peachtree City’s National Night Out is tonight from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Drake Field.
The event is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. The Peachtree City Police Department is hosting this year’s event. Numerous public safety and community based crime prevention agencies have committed their assets for this event. Fire department ladder trucks, helicopters, police vehicles, and various other pieces of public safety equipment will be present for educational presentations and viewing. All children who attend the event can participate in our extremely popular scavenger hunt. Completion of the public safety scavenger hunt result in lots of goodies and prizes donated by the community. “Fore the Paws” Charity Golf Tournament is today at Braelinn Golf Club.  Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. and the shotgun start for the four-person scramble  starts at 9 a.m. The cost is $85 per ticket, and  proceeds will fund Fayette Humane Society’s spay/neuter program and provide veterinary care for rescued cats and dogs. Mark your calendars for today and tomorrow and plan to attend the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Brown’s Mill ~ Newnan, Hospital Town 2014.  There is a $5 admission each day for anyone who is older than the age of eight.  If you are eight years old or younger, admission is free.  
Tickets will be on sale at the ticket booth in downtown Newnan and at the Coweta County Fairgrounds.  Your ticket, wherever it is purchased, is good at either venue throughout the date of purchase.   A ladies’ tea for civilian re-enactors and anyone who will attend in period dress is scheduled for 11 a.m. today in the Exhibit Hall at the Fairgrounds.

Pickleball demonstrations and free lessons are today at 2 p.m., at the Peachtree City Tennis Center on Planterra Way.  Pickleball, the great game with the funny name, is coming to PTC.  Members of the “Sun City Pickleball Club” will give demonstrations and free lessons.  Pickleball is  a cross between tennis, badminton, and ping pong and is easily played by all ages, indoors and outdoors.  Peachtree City resident Joel Kinsman has been appointed Ambassador for the “PTC Pickleball League”. A fundraiser to help the Randy Bounds family is today at 6 p.m. at 383 Fayette Place in Fayetteville. The family has suffered several tragedies and the community is staging the event to help the family. The Piedmont Newnan Hospital Fitness Center will host the seventh annual Autumn Chase today at Newnan Utilities’ Carl Miller Park in Newnan. The Autumn Chase Trail Race, which supports the fitness center’s community fitness programs, consists of a 15k (9 miles) and 5k (3.2 miles) race. The 15k begins at 8 a.m., the 5k will begin at 8:30 a.m., a one-mile fun run will start at 9:15 a.m., and a tot trot at 9:30 a.m. Those interested in supporting the event but not participating in the races can enjoy activities for the entire family, including a Kids’ Castle park, sponsor giveaways and more.
Registration details: $30 registration fee. One-mile fun runners and kids ages 12 and under can participate for $10. Phantom Runner registration fee is $20. Awards will be given to overall winners (male and female) and first, second and third place finishers in all age groups. The Southern Crescent Storytellers, a cluster group of the Southern Order of Storytellers, will present a Tellabration of stories for all ages at the Peachtree City Public Library, Floy Farr Room from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Sponsored by The Friends of the Peachtree City Library, admission is free and refreshments will be served. Long-time Fayette County citizens and professional storytellers will relate tales about our county’s past. Hear stories about Brooks, Peachtree City, Fayetteville, and all of the county’s charming and historic towns. The Southern Crescent Storytellers are a dedicated group of talented people who are committed to the arts in south Metro Atlanta, to the advancement of children’s literary accomplishments, and to helping make storytelling once again an integral part of culture and entertainment in Georgia and the Southeast. The Friends of The Peachtree City Library, Inc. is a volunteer organization and a non-profit corporation whose mission is to promote community support for the Peachtree City Library and its programs.
