Fayetteville police are investigating possible leads in an Aug. 19 armed home invasion on Lakepoint Lane off Redwine Road where two residents were tied up with duct tape and robbed.
Det. Mike Whitlow said the homeowner and his son at approximately 9:30 p.m. heard a rear door open, thinking that one of their relatives had entered the home.
The victims said a black male wearing a black and white bandana and holding a handgun approached them. One of the victims thought the man was a relative playing a joke and attempted to swat the gun away from him, Whitlow said.
The assailant then struck the victim with the gun and forced the two residents upstairs where he was joined by a second assailant, Whitlow said.
Whitlow said the man and his son were forced onto the floor and had their hands and feet bound with duct tape.
The two assailants then ransacked the house for about one hour and repeatedly asked where the money and jewelry were located, Whitlow said.
The assailants left the home with two cells phones belonging to the victims, Whitlow said. The men are believed to have left the home in an unknown vehicle.
The victims freed themselves after the two men exited and called police.
Whitlow said the homeowner believed he might have been followed home from his business in Morrow.
The man wearing the bandana was described as a 5’10” stocky black male while the second man was said to be a thinner black male 5’10” in height. Both men spoke with a Caribbean accent, Whitlow added.
Whitlow said evidence was left at the scene and detectives are investigating possible leads in the case.
