John Patrick Massengale, Jr., 86 of Fayetteville, Ga. passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014.

He was born in Fayette County, Ga. on October 2, 1927, to John Patrick Massengale and Annie Ruth (Edmondson) Massengale. A Fayette County citizen whose family roots could be traced back to the founding of Fayette County with surnames including Edmondson, Kelley, Busbin, McBride, and Travis. Leaving home at 16, he went to work for the railroad, where he was employed for over 44 years, serving mainly as an agent in East Point, Ga. 

His hobbies were hunting, fishing, and raising registered Black Angus cows. He was married to his loving wife, Mildred Louise Eubanks of Marietta, Ga., for 63 years. They had 3 children together.

He is preceded in death by his son, John Patrick Massengale, III. He is survived by his two daughters, Beth Holton of Fayetteville, Ga. and Anne Massengale of Dearing, Ga.; three grandchildren, Jason Oxendine of Manchester, Ga., Dr. Chris Oxendine and wife, Lee of Greenwood S.C., and Adrienne Holton of Fayetteville, Ga.; three great-grandchildren, Jason Rio Oxendine of Manchester, Ga., Noah Oxendine, and Sophie Jane Oxendine of Greenwood, S.C.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of John’s life with his family and friends was held at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home in Peachtree City, Ga. on Friday, April 18, 2014 at 11 a.m. in the chapel. A visitation was held the night before from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. Interment followed the service at Senoia City Cemetery, Senoia, Ga.
