Construction is underway on Coweta County’s newest hospital. The 50-bed HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital of Newnan will create 120 full-time jobs and is expected to open later this year.

Operated by HealthSouth Corp, the 50-bed comprehensive physical rehabilitation hospital will be located on Newnan Crossing Boulevard East near Interstate 85. The $22 million investment will generate 120 full-time jobs with salaries averaging $50,000, HealthSouth officials said.

“We look forward to bringing this new hospital and the much needed comprehensive, inpatient rehabilitation services to the residents of Coweta, Fayette and south Fulton counties,” said Linda Wilder, president of the southeast region for HealthSouth. ”We also are grateful for the tremendous, positive support we received from the community, its leaders and local healthcare providers, including Piedmont Healthcare.”

Wilder said the move to Newnan is a good one for the city and for HealthSouth.

“Newnan has been underserved in our area of rehab,” Wilder said.

Newnan Mayor Keith Brady said the new hospital will enhance the city’s promise of creating an economically sustainable environment that stimulates a modern and growing economy, strengthens existing and future industry clusters and diversifies Newnan’s economic base.

The 55,000 sq. ft. comprehensive rehabilitation hospital will feature only private rooms, an on-site therapy gym and cutting-edge physical rehabilitation technologies, officials said.
The hospital will provide comprehensive physical rehabilitation to patients who have experienced stroke, trauma, brain and orthopedic injuries and other major illnesses or injuries, according to HealthSouth.

The new hospital is located less than a quarter-mile from Poplar Road and Piedmont Newnan Hospital. The two hospitals and a growing number of healthcare businesses are positioned adjacent to the future Poplar Road interchange along I-85.

Construction on the 55,000 square-foot hospital was underway at the time of the March 27 groundbreaking. HealthSouth officials said the rehab hospital is expected to open by December.

The project to bring HealthSouth to Newnan and Coweta County was initiated by the Ga. Dept. of Economic Development and Georgia Power.

HealthSouth is the nation’s largest owner and operator of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals in terms of patients treated and discharged, revenues and number of hospitals. Operating in 28 states across the country and in Puerto Rico, HealthSouth serves patients through its network of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, outpatient rehabilitation satellite clinics and home health agencies.

HealthSouth’s hospitals provide a higher level of rehabilitative care to patients who are recovering from conditions such as stroke and other neurological disorders, orthopedic, cardiac and pulmonary conditions, brain and spinal cord injuries and amputations, according to HealthSouth.
