The old Ace Hardware store on Ga. Highway 154 just north of Thomas Crossroads was approved Jan. 23 for a rezoning that will bring a furniture and appliance business to the location.
The unanimous vote by commissioners amended a condition of the C-6 (Commercial Minor Shopping Zoning District) zoning that allowed the site in 2004 to be used as a hardware store.
Applicant Jack Shepard requested that one of the conditions of the zoning be amended to permit the old hardware store to be converted to a business that sells furniture and appliances.
Situated on 2.6 acres, the 18,375 sq. ft. building was the site of the Ace Hardware that closed in August 2010. The building has remained vacant since that time.
The planning and zoning department recommended approval with several conditions. The approval of the commission was unanimous.
