0Virginia Inez Godwin, 85, of Fayetteville, passed away January 17, 2014.
She was a 1945 graduate of Russell High School and stayed active in the Alumni Association. She was also a member of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her first husband Fred J. Godwin and second husband Norvel “Buck” Godwin. She is survived by her son Fred (Judy) Godwin, II of Troy, Ohio; daughter Karen (Bobby) Torbush of Luthersville; daughter Ginny (Will “Corky”) Thorsen of Wake Forest, N.C.; grandchildren Jackie (Andy) Voss, Fred (Allison) Godwin, III, Sarah (Michael) Powell, Judson Robertson, William (Janelle) Thorsen, III, Genise Thorsen, and Eric Thorsen; 7 great-grandchildren; sister Irene Chapman of Newnan; sister Betty (Robert) Plant of Elgin, S.C.; and several nieces & nephews.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Fayetteville First United Methodist Church, Fayetteville. Reverend Mark Westmoreland officiated. A burial followed at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. The family received friends Monday from 4to 7 p.m. at Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville.
