The movie, “Murder in Coweta County,” strikes a familiar chord among the residents of Coweta County. This sensational murder trial, held in 1948, put this rural Georgia county “on the map”.
As a result, Coweta County receives many visitors touring this area with questions and interest in the various locations that relate to this story.
The summer of 2013 brought movie producer, Dick Atkins, to Newnan, Georgia. Atkins provided two programs on the subject of the murder. Held at the Courthouse and at the Newnan
Carnegie Library, to standing room audiences, the producer answered many questions on the filming of the movie. Mr. Atkins was taken on a tour of the various areas and towns that were a part of the filming of the movie and that were site locations of the actual story. Receiving a special invitation, local historian, Elizabeth Beers, accompanied the group and provided commentary.
Sharing the story of her experience this summer and of her experience as class mate of the author of “Murder in Coweta County”, Margaret Anne Barnes, Elizabeth will provide a pre-movie commentary, giving special insight into this sensational story, Tuesday, Sept. 17, at 2 p.m. at the Newnan Carnegie.
The Newnan Carnegie is located at 1 LaGrange Street, downtown Newnan on the historic Courthouse Square. Registration is required: call to reserve your spot: 770-683-1347.
