Forty years ago, the men and women who served in Vietnam returned home and were grossly mistreated. While we can’t undo the past, VFW 3650 of Fayetteville and Alison Chambers would like to give these veterans the “welcome home” they deserved and should have received.
On Sept. 28, there will be a parade through downtown Fayetteville followed by a program of speakers and period music at the Southern Ground Amphitheater. The event is open to any Vietnam veteran – you do not have to be a resident of Fayette County.
The parade will start at 11 a.m. at the Fayette County Justice Center located at 1 Center Drive in Fayetteville. Transportation during the parade will be provided to veterans unless you have your own vehicle or float that you would like to enter in the parade. After the parade there will be a “welcome home” program at Southern Ground Amphitheater on Tiger Trail in Fayetteville.
To account for veterans planning to attend the event, those needing transportation to the event or those veterans or organization wanting to enter a float in the parade, please contact Alison Chambers at 678-464-5989 or AHeroesHomecoming@gmail.com or Ron “Stubby” Stubbs at 404-431-0276 or RJStubbs@bellsouth.net for an application and more information.
